Tee up at Stoney Creek Golf Course

Stoney Creek Golf Course is located in the Rockfish River Valley. Renowned golf course architect Rees Jones built this championship course with a whopping 27 holes. Stoney Creek is ranked among the top 50 golf courses in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine and the #34 best resort course in the U.S. by Golf Digest. This course even offers winter-season golf, so you can ski in the morning and tee in the afternoon. At Stoney Creek, the golf season is year-round.

This public course is open to all, though the restaurant is only open to club members. Also available is a clubhouse with a pro shop, locker rooms, and a snack shop. The golf club boasts well-maintained, serene course conditions, stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and elevation changes that add a unique challenge. Playing on the mountain is an interesting game, and the ball seems like it soars. The way the ball flies can present all new challenges as the ground drops from the tie box so the ball lands more vertically and goes further than on a normal course.

Play the long game at Swannanoa Golf & Country Club

Want to tee up at a historical course with majestic scenery? Calvin Coolidge once played a round of golf here at Swannanoa Golf & Country Club, located in nearby Aston between Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont Valley. Swannanoa is open seven days a week from 7:00 AM to sundown and features 18 holes for experienced golfers. It offers sweeping views of the surrounding valleys.

Elevate your game at Devils Knob Golf Course

Though the Devils Knob Golf Course is a championship-level course with exceptional amenities, it is a members-only golf club, so you must seek membership to play a round here. Registered resort guests can also play. Renowned golf course architect Ellis Maples designed the Devils Knob Golf Course. It is the highest golf course in Virginia and stays cool in the summer due to its mountain location. It offers dramatic mountain views as far as 50 miles away over the Shenandoah and Rockfish Valleys.

During the fall, it showcases stunning changing foliage. All year-long members can enjoy a pro shop with top-of-the-line merchandise, a locker room, a snack shop, and a fine dining sit-down restaurant. Because it requires membership, this can be one of the more expensive outings on our list.
